𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 & 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆

As part of the DELTA project DELTA – Darmstädter Energie-Labor für Technologien in der Anwendung, we at e-hoch-3 were delighted to support our project partner Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (h_da) in exploring the urban cargobike sharing system „Radgeber“ (https://lnkd.in/gmq-XaCr) at TU Campus in Darmstadt. With our team of sustainability experts in cooperation with h_da, e-hoch-3 contributed with the calculation and assessment of the environmental impact of the sharing system, using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach. Beyond the numbers, the team also collaborated to investigate user-behaviour and explore different scenarios to model the potential sustainability impacts of sharing systems in urban environments.

 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸: 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁
The sharing system at Campus Lichtwiese includes four e-cargo bikes powered partially by solar energy and housed in a refurbished container hub.
Our LCA evaluated:
-Emissions over the full lifecycle
-Comparison to other transport models
-Improvement levers like material durability & smart logistics

 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀:
E-cargo bike sharing shows significant GHG reduction potential, particularly compared to private cars – while offering more flexibility for bulky or heavy transport than public transport.
Keep location, design, availability and user friendliness in mind to ensure its positive impact.
Used and implemented wisely, it’s more than a bike: it’s an urban decarbonization tool!
